A person can only get Thalassemia by inheriting it from their parents. The genes that determine what we look like are also responsible for many diseases. Thalassemia happens by chance, there is nothign that we can do about it. Thallaseemia can not be caught by anyone else or transmitted, it is simply a disease you are born with.
